The Function Editor of Toon Boom Studio provide a good and easy way to move and control objects in vertical axis or direction. The Function Editor is fun so play around.

A positive value of the vertical field means above the center. A negative value of the vertical field means below the center.

Vertical Position of Balloon Passing the Camera – Center

Vertical Position (1.4) of Balloon Passing the Camera – Pass Above

With this value (1.4), the balloon is high enough to pass above the camera.

Vertical Position (1.2) of Balloon Passing the Camera – Hit Basket

By lowering the vertical value from 1.4 to 1.2, the basket of balloon will hit the camera.

Vertical Position (-1.0) of Balloon Passing the Camera – Hit Balloon

By further lowering the value below the center line, i.e. a negative value, to -1.0, the balloon will hit at the camera.

Vertical Position (-1.5) of Balloon Passing the Camera – Pass Below

By further lowering the value to -1.5, the balloon is lucky enough to pass below the camera.
